What is Presbyterian Disaster Assistance?

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) helps people who have been hurt by disasters. Their homes and entire neighborhoods may have been destroyed by something like a hurricane, flood, tornado, drought , fire or war in their country. As soon as a disaster happens, PDA works with churches and other groups. They help people by giving them food, water, medicine or other things they need to recover. PDA helps people in the United States and in countries around the world.

When a disaster happens, we read about it in the newspaper or see about it on the television news. Then after a while we don't get much news about it. If the disaster happened a long time ago, people in other places may start to forget about it. But many times PDA will still be helping people. Sometimes people need help for a long time before their lives get back to normal. It may take a long time for parents have their jobs again and for neighborhoods and homes to be rebuilt.

Sometimes helping means encouraging people to volunteer to help rebuild homes that were destroyed. Sometimes it means showing people how to grow food that is healthier and won’t be destroyed by drought. Sometimes, it’s just being with the people to listen to their needs and let them know that God cares about them.
